What do we offer?

Team race training and events

Training within the club and with other local university sailing clubs in the region to learn new skills and prepare for events. We often attend the BUCS Team Racing Championships and the Reading Wet Dream, among others.

Fleet race training and events

If you’ve sailed before, you’ll have probably done fleet racing before. Along with competing in Datchet Water Sailing Club’s Sunday morning and Wednesday evening racing series, we’re also hosting the BUCS Fleet Racing Championships in November 2020!

Social Sailing

We get it, you’ve had a long week at uni and just want a bit of down time. There’s no pressure to join the race team and you can sail whenever the water is open at Datchet using any of our boats. We have a growing number of sailors who use the organised sailing sessions to develop their skills further.

Learn to Sail

Working with Datchet Water Sailing Club, we can take you from zero to hero in sailing. DWSC is an RYA recognised training centre and as such delivers a range of courses, from Start Sailing to Sailing with Spinnakers. If you’re really keen, there’s even the opportunity to attend a Powerboat course. From time to time, special courses such as RYA Day Skipper and VHF courses are arranged.

Summer Sail Week

What better way to celebrate the end of exams than a week in the Mediterranean, sailing from port to port on a yacht? The trip is a fantastic way to end the year and, for some, their life at university.

Where and When do we Sail?

Datchet Water Sailing Club

Our sailing home is Datchet Water Sailing Club, about 20 minutes drive from the Brunel University campus. Apart from the endless Instagram sunsets to make all your friends jealous, Datchet offers an extensive piece of water to sail on, raised above the local area. This gives a strong, clean breeze resulting in the perfect sailing venue.

Wednesday Sailing

Our Wednesday sessions are the main sailing session at Brunel Sailing. We meet together at The Bridge along the main path on campus at 1pm where transport takes you to DWSC. After a few hours of great sailing, we return back to campus.

But, we’re more than just sailing!

Our socials are a vital part of the club, and they’re what make us special. From Bowling at the local bowling alley and film nights to our celebratory Christmas dinner and themed pub crawls, there should be something for everyone. If there isn’t, let us know and something can soon be arranged!
